St. Paul's News

Grace and peace to you! As you are certainly aware, the COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc on many lives these days. The major concern at this point is to “flatten the curve” by social distancing so that our hospitals and health care facilities do not become overwhelmed with people and to protect those most vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 due to age or compromised immune systems. Your church leadership has had to make some difficult but necessary decisions to keep everyone safe.

Please note the following updates:

- All worship services and activities at St. Paul's UCC, St. Marys, are cancelled until further notice.

-The church office will be closed to the public as well. Please remember that our congregation has financial obligations to meet even when we do not gather. Your continued generosity makes ministry possible at St. Paul's UCC, and our ministry is needed now more than ever. Offerings can be dropped off at the mail slot in the office door or mailed to the church and online giving is available through a button on this website.

- Breaking Bread Community Meal will be on hiatus until further notice.

As a church called to love, we will continue to take measures to care for persons who are vulnerable.

-if you do not feel well, please contact your health care provider, especially if you are in the at-risk category.

-if you are isolated, for any reason, and need assistance with getting food or personal items, please contact Pastor Rhonda at rhainer@bright.net or contact the church office at 419-394-3811. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need conversation or care.

-If you are low-risk and not one of those especially susceptible to this virus and would be willing to volunteer to assist those in need, please let us know as well.

-Some of our members do not have internet access. If you would be willing to be a phone contact for one or more of these households to convey information and offer support, please contact us. It is our hope to contact every member/ household through phone calls, email, our website (stpaulsuccsm.com) and our church facebook page at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Marys, Ohio. Speaking of our church facebook page, be sure to check it out as recently several of our church family have recorded videos of children singing, praying, reading. The Spencer Family reminded us to keep God as our vision by singing “Be Thou My Vision and Jim Huckemeyer performed an inspirational instrumental solo of “The Lord’s Prayer” on his trombone, all for your viewing pleasure.

In Romans 8, the apostle Paul tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not famine nor nakedness no peril nor sword—and certainly not COVID-19. God is with us individually and as a faith community, and we will get through this time together by embodying God’s love for one another.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Pastor Rhonda (rhainer@bright.net), Congregational President Luke Leffel, or Consistory President Ralph Heckler or the church office at 419-394-3811.

NO SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES OR SUNDAY SCHOOL, INCLUDING IN PERSON ACTIVITIES THROUGH THE END OF MARCH.

Out of respect for the physical health of our church members in light of COVID-19, we have cancelled Sunday morning worship services, Sunday School for all ages, and any in person events and activities through March 29.

This is a quickly changing challenge.  We want to be respectful of our congregation.  We are paying attention to the recommendation from the White House coronavirus task force, along with the recommendation of Gov. DeWine's health secretary and the recommendation of the Heartland Conference United Church of Christ

The church office will maintain regular weekday hours and pastoral care is available.

Breaking Bread will not provide dine in meals, but volunteers will be outside handing out meals via drive thru\walk thru until further notice.

Please know that we are keeping everyone at St. Paul's UCC in our prayers and invite you to do the same. The good news is that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Even the COVID-19 pandemic. We will get through this with God's help.

In Christ we are,

Ralph Heckler, St. Paul's UCC St. Marys Consistory President,

Luke Leffel, President of the Congregation,

 Rhonda Hainer, Pastor

St. Paul’s UCC  Temporarily Suspends In Person Services

We write to you today in the name of Jesus Christ to share our church’s current response to the growing concern about the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Body of Christ, we have a responsibility to one another and to the community around us to do all that we can to keep one another, especially the most vulnerable among us, healthy and safe.

With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person worship service at St. Paul’s UCC, St. Marys for this coming Sunday, March 22, 2020. We will reassess each week and keep you informed.

While the church office will maintain regular weekday hours and Pastoral Care is available, we are cancelling all in-person programming including our mid-week Lenten Service.  This includes our Sunday School programming as well as Boy Scout activities and GED classes which have been cancelled for three weeks.

Breaking Bread will not provide dine in meals, but our staff will be outside handing out meals via a drive thru\walk thru method until further notice.

Please check here for weekly updates.

Know that this decision was not made lightly. It grieves us whenever we are unable to gather together as the people of God. Our current decision was made in accordance with a recommendation from the Heartland Conference of the United Church of Christ, as well as the CDC and State of Ohio.

May today be a day of grace, love and persistence as, with God's help, we figure this out together.

NOTICE CHANGES COMING TO BREAKING BREAD

We now have online giving! Is is available now by downloading VAnco PAyment Solutions onto your mobile device by going to the app store or Google Play and search for "GivePlus Church" the download is free. You can also select the "Donate" button on the Home page of this website.

We've hired a contractor and work is scheduled to begin in March with an expected completion by the end of August. We've done an awesome job of raising money for this "uplifting" project however, we still need to raise $50,000. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated.

WE DID IT for 2019 and now its time to start on 2020. Our goal once again is  2500 rolls and we already are up to 866 rolls and and 116 bars of soap ... Let's keep it ROLLING.

At a congregation meeting on October 27, 2019 the members of St.Paul's voted to make Rev. Rhonda Hainer our next Pastor. Welcome to St. Pauls Rhonda! For those who do not know, Pastor Rhonda and her husband, David, have been attending St. Paul's UCC for several months. She brings to us a wealth of experience and skill sets that will be beneficial to our congregation as we continue to find a settled pastor. Pastor Rhonda most recently was the House Manager for Ronald McDonald Charities of Central Indiana at Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Additionally, she was a college instructor at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa, where she taught classes in the Philosophy and Humanities Departments. As a Methodist ordained minister, Rhonda preached at churches, large and small, in Wisconsin and Iowa. Her skill sets include church leadership, spiritual direction, communications, pastoral care, public speaking and education. The Hainers reside at Southmoor Shores and love lake life and the St. Marys community.
